The world of entrepreneurship within the psychedelic space is exploding, and while there are more opportunities than ever, there is also more “competition” and a “wild west” field to navigate. What does it really take to devote your vocation to transformation with psychedelic medicines?
Interest in working in the psychedelic and healing field is growing exponentially. As a business coach who helps therapists, healers, integration coaches, and psychedelic facilitators start and grow their business (both “above” and “below” ground), I’ve observed a surge in people entering these fields over the past few years driven by a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
(Of course I’ve also observed people jumping onto the psychedelic bandwagon thinking it’s fun work and easy money…. DOH.)
This space is growing quickly, which I think is mostly a great thing. I do believe on some level the world is asking for help and healing, and as a result, we have an increase in people wanting to serve.
Humanity needs more healers and people who want to do good in the world. I personally could not have survived through the last 15 years of my life without all of the support I had from coaches, healers, therapists, and medicine integrations that all helped me grow as a human.
The desire to be involved in these spaces is huge, so what will be the deciding factors that lead some entrepreneurs to succeed and others to struggle and never flourish?
Starting out…
When I first started out, even though I had clients during my unofficial phase of coaching, it wasn’t until I hired my first business coach that I truly began to take my role as an entrepreneur seriously.
I was in a program designed for new and early-stage entrepreneurs, somewhat similar to the mastermind program I run now, though there are distinct differences. The program I was in involved group coaching sessions and included about 60 to 70 participants.
Being involved with a group was a great way to start building a community and network of like-minded people on the same path. I’m currently still friends with a handful of people I met in my group coaching. These are people that I still collaborate with as industry friends.
While many of the program participants found success in this space, it’s interesting to note that the majority of the people that were in that mastermind didn’t make it.
Some people were able to provide their services for 1-3 years, but so many of them were not doing the coaching that they’d originally set out to do. So what happened?
As a spiritual business coach, I’ve worked with a countless number of people in the early stages of their journeys. I always remind my clients that it takes a certain level of resiliency, consistency, and hard work to get their businesses past the building stages.
The reality is that in those first three years, you have to dedicate a lot of your time to showing up and doing the work that’s needed to build and grow your business for it to have a chance at succeeding.
A big appeal to starting a business is that you get to run it how you want. You don’t need to work 40+ hours a week to make it happen, especially if you already have a job or other things going on. But it’s still up to you to decide how much time and energy you put in, and your results will be dependent on the time you give.
I want to mention that there’s a lot of illusion in the spiritual coaching industry that promotes this idea that just aligning your energy can magically manifest high-paying clients. While I occasionally use similar language, it’s important to understand that true alignment involves more than energy—it requires a solid practical foundation. This balance is essential for real, sustainable success.
Show up for your clients and business even through life’s challenges
Here’s the thing. I still work a lot. I tend to not work on Fridays, but I work longer during the other four days of the week. Sometimes I’ll work on Sunday nights unless I have other plans. And then there are periods of the year where I’ll bust my butt working, as well as periods where it’s easier to take time off.
The key is that I show up consistently for my business throughout the entire year. It doesn’t mean I’m working all the time. Just like anything else in life, there are ebbs and flows.
Even during slower periods, I don’t abandon my business and disappear for months. And what I’ve seen over the years is the people who don’t really make it in their business are not fully committed to showing up consistently.
Of course, life happens. There are breakups, marriages, divorces, deaths, illnesses, vacations, pregnancies, etc. Having compassion for where you are in your life and taking care of yourself is just as important as staying consistent and committed to what your goals are.
How self doubt and unconscious limiting beliefs stifle your potential
So what gets in the way of being consistent? A common one I see is fear. Doubts and limiting beliefs hold so many people back.
I see this fear manifest in different ways for my clients, and in my coaching programs, I help clients learn how to transmute limiting beliefs for psychedelic leadership.
Maybe they want to launch their business but they’re afraid to speak to people about it. Maybe showing up on social media terrifies them, or they enjoy one social platform so much that they neglect building their presence elsewhere.
So many people are looking for quick and easy answers. We’re all getting fed this illusion by coaches and marketers that things can be super simple, and they get you to believe that real success can happen overnight.
And now with the rise of AI, these illusions are fueled even more because we’re being told that AI can literally do it all for us. But guess what, it doesn’t work like that.
Rather than get swept up in all the guru talk online, it’s better to focus on the core of your business foundation. This should be your “why”.
— Why do you even want to have your own business?
— What do you imagine yourself doing in 5-10 years?
— Where do you want to be?
— Where is your future heading?
— How does building this business align with those goals?
— Are you ready to build a psychedelic business from the ground up?
You don’t need clarity or to know all of the specifics right now, but you really need to dig deep and understand what your goals are.
If you truly feel called to a path of service, you’ll need to understand what will drive you to show up in your business. That way, when you’re not consistent or when you fall off the radar for a few weeks or months, you can revisit your original intention of why you even started on this path.
Prepare yourself for the harsh realities of the psychedelic space
I will be honest, this work is not for the faint of heart… ESPECIALLY in the psychedelic ecosystem. It’s a sensitive space and, IMHO, great respect, care and reverence for these sacred medicines (plants or not) is mandatory.
There are a lot of “haters” out there and many I call “the psychedelic police” who think they know the only and right way to work with the medicines. I personally have done so much inner work on myself to develop deep self trust and sovereignty, a thick skin, especially for dealing with nasty or unpleasant comments you’ll inevitably get from the haters, random people online, or those psychedelic police.
I’ve had plenty of people message me to tell me that they don’t like me or what I talk about. People think they “own” the medicine. Some think their way is the only way, or a certain lineage is the right way. Haters are an unfortunate part of life today, and it’s part of being a leader in the world. The inner work I’ve done has helped me understand that these people are projecting their own insecurities and wounds onto me, and their hate or negativity doesn’t really have anything to do with me.
You will also most likely come up against people who have strong opinions around whether or not you should be paid for the services you offer. I’ve struggled with this because it felt like things were too good to be true. I was (and am) earning a living from doing work that I genuinely love while being of service to others. This is why it’s important to learn how to transform your money mindset with integrity.
When I experienced financial success from coaching, I questioned if I needed to suffer more because that was the programming I was used to. But in order to reach the point where I was making enough money and being supported with my soul’s work, I really had to be dedicated to showing up.
Continuing with your entrepreneurial journey requires embracing both your value and the value of your work in the world. As you face these challenges and continue to grow, remember that every negative comment or doubt from others is an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to your path.
Your inner work: the path for progress and failure
Inner work is important… this is why I integrate many modalities including Transformational Neuro-Linguistic Programming, the art of applied metaphysics, and over 30 years of working with psychedelics and sacred medicines
But I’ve noticed in aspiring entrepreneurs is that many will focus heavily on their traumas and challenges, which ends up paralyzing them. I get it–there are days where I allow myself to feel like crap and not get as much done as I would like.
But if you want to be an entrepreneur and you feel like your lingering trauma responses are preventing you from making progress for months or even years, you need to ask yourself:
– Is it more important to hold onto these trauma narratives even as they control and limit you?
– Or do you find a way to work through them or leave them in the past in order to make space for what you’re pursuing?
AND, this is why it’s helpful to work with a coach like me who helps you clear your past stories, traumas and blocks so you create an authentic, high-integrity business that feels true to your Soul.
I’m not discounting how trauma can deeply affect people, and I’m not bypassing the fact that it exists. What I’m saying is there’s a way to hold it all and still move forward.
If we look at some of the big spiritual leaders or authors out there, we can see that they’re still working through their triggers, their traumas, and their wounds, because they’re human and all humans have these. Over the years I’ve seen people get stuck in their story of needing to heal before going out to help others. There’s this idea that they need to be fully healed and perfect before they move on.
Ultimately what’s needed is a deep level of self compassion and self trust, which comes over time with consistent work and support. Building your “rapport with self” allows you to find a way to hold both the past wounds, traumas and stories and the desire to move forward.
I’ve been doing my work for many years. And, the other year(s), I went through one of the most challenging periods of my life, where almost every aspect of my life was difficult for months and months and months. It was really freakin’ hard but… guess what? I also had my biggest years ever.
SO, how do you explain that??
I was able to sit in the pain of dealing with my aging mom who has dementia, navigating huge decisions with her, a breakup, walking away from what I thought was a community of “friends”…. but I still forged ahead with my business and it’s expansion.
If I didn’t tell my clients what I was going through, they probably wouldn’t have noticed because I showed up for them from a different perspective. I showed up from my Higher Self that was really committed to this deeper mission of serving others.
This is why one of my mottos in life has always been “Mission over ego.” By prioritizing your deeper mission and Higher Self over your ego, you can navigate through tough times and traumas with greater clarity and purpose.
Why committing to a path of service to others is the only path forward
I’ve noticed over the years that the more I dedicate myself to my prayers and the greater path of service, the more money I make, the more aligned I feel, and the happier I am.
I find greater rewards when I walk the path of deeper service. I speak my prayers out loud to the earth, to my guides, and to ancestors and I say, “Use me as a channel”.
And I say this because I believe I’m on this earth for something great, not just suffering or to be in a constant state of anxiety and worry. I believe we’re all here to be in ecstatic joy.
Ultimately, the choice is yours: do you want to see what happens when you transcend your personal limitations and dedicate yourself to a greater purpose?
This means releasing your attachment to money, failure, and success, and instead, acting on a deep internal drive.
This is the path I have been on for about 12 years, committing to something larger than myself, guided by a powerful inner motivation.
When I first started out, I was driven by a feeling that if I didn’t pursue this path, my soul would suffer. The thought of possibly regretting not following this call if I were to die tomorrow was not a feeling I enjoyed.
So, I chose to follow my path without being too fixated on the outcome. Of course, as humans, we naturally hope for success, but I maintained a healthy detachment from the results.
This approach is fundamentally about commitment, consistency, and truly understanding and choosing what you deeply desire.
If you’re willing to walk through that fire, I encourage you to reach out and see if my 1-1 Soul Expansion and Business Coaching or one my other business coaching programs would be a great fit for you. My True Path Entrepreneur Group Business Coaching Mastermind Program is geared towards mostly newer entrepreneurs, but I do have people in my programs who have been in business for 1-7 years who need help figuring things out.
Maybe they’re not making enough, or maybe it’s time for a big shift. Whatever it is, we figure it out together.
As you walk your path of entrepreneurship, especially in the space of healing and psychedelics, remember that success is not just about strategies or outcomes but about deep, personal alignment and meaningful action. It’s about choosing to rise above personal and professional challenges by staying true to a mission that transcends your individual self.
Learn to embrace the path ahead with resilience and authenticity, committing to your visions not just for personal gain, but for the greater good.
